How to make a potrait mode photo on galaxy s7, s7 edge, s8 and s8 plus

Popular ports of the Pixel 2’s Google Camera bring Google’s post-processing technologies to a wide range of high-end devices. It took a few iterations, but the most recent releases support lens blur, bokeh adjustment, and high-resolution video recording modes on phones such as the OnePlus 3, the Samsung Galaxy S8, and the LG V30.

This week, XDA Senior Member miniuser123 fixed a niggling issue with Exynos-based devices: Portrait mode. His modified Google Camera app gets portrait mode — the camera effect that blurs out your selfie’s background and brings your face into focus — to smartphones with Samsung’s in-house Exynos processors, which include the international editions of the Galaxy S7, S8, and Note 8. With the app installed and a few tweaks applied in the Settings menu, it’s seamless — albeit a bit slower than devices with Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-chips.


Here’s how to get it up and running: Once you’ve installed Camera_5.1.018.177470874.apk, apply this configuration in the Settings menu:

Enter advanced setting and then follow this:

Next, enter developer setting and follow this:

Once you’ve done that, portrait mode and HDR+ should be a lot less prone to crashing on your Exynos-based smartphone. (Note that your handset has to support the Camera2 API, which not all do.)

Portrait mode’s just scratching the surface of the Google Camera port’s capabilities, of course. You’ll also enjoy the ability to capture RAW photos and compressed photos simultaneously, zero shutter lag (ZSL), and 4K video recording (if your phone’s hardware supports it).

Martial strike sinks Spurs at Old Trafford

MANCHESTER, England (Reuters) - MANCHESTER UNITED 1 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 0

Substitute Anthony Martial's 81st minute strike gave Manchester United a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday to keep them in touch with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

After last week's surprise defeat at Huddersfield Town, Jose Mourinho's team could ill afford another slip-up and they had to battle hard against a resilient Spurs to take the points.

United move on to 23 points, two behind leaders City who are at West Bromwich Albion later on Saturday, while third-placed Spurs are on 20.

Tottenham, without their top scorer Harry Kane who was ruled out with a hamstring injury, played some tidy and progressive football in midfield.

But although South Korean winger Son Heung-min, playing in a central striking role, provided some intelligent movement and linked up well, the threatening presence of Kane, the league's top scorer with eight goals, was not surprisingly missed.

Spurs have now lost 21 of their 26 trips to Old Trafford in the Premier League era – their worst away record against any club in the division.

Marcus Rashford provided an early test for Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris with a low-struck 25-yard free-kick which the Frenchman was able to turn past the post.

Chances were rare, however, with Spurs not asking a question of United keeper David De Gea until a hooked volley from Eric Dier, from inside a crowded area, three minutes before the break.

United made an aggressive start to the second half and Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku both forced Lloris into saves as Mourinho's side threw themselves forward.

Spurs though could have gone in front themselves in the 76th minute when Christian Eriksen threaded a superb ball towards Dele Alli but the England midfielder's left-footed effort from an awkward angle went the wrong side of the post. Had Alli chosen his right foot, and opened up more space for his shot, he may well have found the target.

Lingard's deep cross towards the back post was headed firmly - but against the post - by Lukaku and it was beginning to feel like it might not be United's day.

But then Mourinho's side grabbed the win and in the most basic of manners.

A long ball from De Gea was flicked on by Lukaku into the path of the on-running Martial and the Frenchman confidently slotted past Lloris.

The Galaxy S6 was Samsung's response to growing criticism that the design of its high-end models just didn't live up to their price tag and market position. Okay then, a dual-glass sandwich with aluminum all around is premium enough, but you had to live without the storage expansion, replaceable battery and protection against the elements that were all available in the Galaxy S5.

The Galaxy S7 marks the return of the microSD slot and water-proofing, and while the battery is still sealed (which doesn't seem likely to change going forward), Samsung has been a lot more generous with the capacity for this generation.
Galaxy flagships have always led the way when it comes to imaging, their cameras always being among the top performers in the market. This time around, Samsung went backwards to play a different game of numbers: fewer but larger pixels, all 12 million of them capable of phase detection. Lightning-fast autofocus is the promise, and we've already seen the S7 deliver on it.
AMOLED has long since shaken off the stigma of being all punch and no precision, to actually bring the best of both worlds. The Always On displays are all the rage this season, and being able to light up individual pixels has always made this specific technology inherently suited for the job. "Why so late?" is probably the question to be answered.

The FM radio is perhaps gone for good, the assumption apparently being that the jury has ruled in favor of streaming over the internet. The IR blaster is another feature due for retirement - the S6 had it, then the Note5 didn't, and now with the S7 the trend is clear.
Update: A software update has enabled the FM radio at least on T-Mobile S7/S7 edge in the US. It turns out the FM receiver hardware has always been there and was just not enabled at launch. The T-Mobile units are powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset, so technically the option is there for all variants running on Qualcomm's chip. Our international unit, however, runs on the Exynos 8890 and so far we haven't heard of FM radio enabling update (if there ever will be one).
The design-conscious among potential buyers will likely be looking at the Galaxy S7 edge, but that in no way makes the vanilla S7 the ugly duckling. The S6's shapes have been refined, gentle curves have replaced whatever sharp edges the old model had, the camera module now only barely sticks out - in other words, the familiar design was improved and refined.
